About the Director...
Shannon Curtis is the new director of the North Suburban Concert Band. He graduated from Luther College, Magna Cum Laude, as a member of the class of 2013, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music accompanied by a minor in K-12 Music Education. During his time at Luther he performed with the Luther Concert Band, Luther Symphony Orchestra, Luther Jazz Orchestra, and in various small chamber ensembles including the Luther Trumpet Ensemble which performed at the 2012 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Minneapolis.
He currently serves as one of two band directors at Zimmerman Middle and High School. The program currently supports over 315 middle school and 130 high school students. He is the director of the Zimmerman Middle School Jazz Band and the Zimmerman Pit Orchestra. Shannon also works with the River Valley Sound winter hornline and joined the 728 Cadets Marching Band this past summer as a hornline and visual director. Prior to beginning his job in Zimmerman, Shannon taught band just south of Mason City, Iowa in the West Fork School District.
This year, Shannon was selected to serve as the President-Elect of the Central Minnesota Band Directors Association. He will continue to coordinate the High School Honor Band Festival sponsored by that organization as well as administer his duties as the President-Elect. This position will allow him to work with band directors from all over central Minnesota to meet their professional needs.
Shannon maintains an active performance schedule as a trumpet player, playing in the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble and subbing with many Twin Cities bands and orchestras.
